A little bit about me:

Hi, I’m Sana. I started this blog out of my passion for travelling. It has always been my dream to travel the world, document histories, peoples, cultures and learn from the immense tapestry of a spiritual legacy that has been left behind as well. Unfortunately, living out that dream can’t be a reality for every wander-lusted individual and so I have tried to live out my interests in this format, from the convenience of my laptop and with the intention of benefiting others at the same time.

My intention is to inspire people to seek knowledge through travel, to draw nearer to Allah by witnessing his wonders and to better equip Muslim travellers with the right advice so that they may be practically assisted as well. I am based in my hometown of Sydney, Australia, work full time and enjoy study of languages, arts and crafts, as well as involvement in my community.

Meet “Muzbnb”, faith-based homestay network for Muslim travellers

Last year, a friend of mine shared her experiences in a Daily Life article about the challenges of engaging with the sharing economy as a Brown Muslim Woman. Although I have been fortunate enough not to have experienced such discrimination, I don’t doubt that it’s present. Her story made me think about how with disruptive technologies such as Airbnb and Uber, consumers were able to stick it to the big companies and find more affordable alternatives to get around, but how it’s a new and uncertain space where other consumer rights may not be protected. With the Muslim travel market proving to be an increasingly lucrative one, currently estimated to be worth USD126 billion (Crescentrating.com), Muslim entrepreneurs and Start-ups are keen to service the needs of their community. I spoke to Hadi Shakuur, CEO from one such Startup, “Muzbnb”, an exciting new homestay network targeted towards servicing Muslim travellers. Here’s what he had to say about their work…

A Visit to Bosnia, with Zeynab Gamieldien

For almost as long as I’ve known Zeynab, I have witnessed her fascination with different cultures and their histories. Two in particular have always been Russian and the Balkan legacies. When Zeynab first told me she would have the opportunity to visit Bosnia, I was so excited for her. All the books, travelogues and documentaries she had consumed about this great land, would come to life in a highly perceptive set of eyes. I interviewed Zeynab about her trip, and here is what she had to share…
