Exploring the theory and practice of Wayfaring
4 Nov
This is an excerpt from the section of The Wayfarer’s Tale titled Wayfarers & Wayfaring. New readers, please note that “emergence” refers to the process of awakening the essential self of the individual.
Wayfarers are those individuals who have made a decision to undertake the process of emergence.
Considering that there are a large variety of methods and practices that can foster this process, identifying oneself as a Wayfarer does not preclude being involved with other groups or practices.
Individual Wayfarers are encouraged to seek their own path, to use the methods that they decide are best for them. Wayfarers do not claim to have any special knowledge. The body of knowledge called Wayfaring is natural, and is the heritage of every human being.
There are many individuals and groups who claim to possess knowledge concerning the emergence process.
Some of these are genuine and offer a useful framework and methodology to aid the individual in this process.
Other self-styled teachers and groups are engaging in deliberate deception for personal gain. Others have instead managed to deceive themselves into believing that they possess special knowledge that is illusory.
It is of utmost importance for an individual to use their own discretion as to whether a teaching has merit, and whether a teacher or organization has something to offer them that may assist with their journey.
Wayfarers have no need to claim fantastic ancient lineages, extraterrestrial secrets or extra-dimensional contacts in order for their information and activities to be valid. Lineages and connections of this sort may exist, but if so, they are rare, and do not tend to publicize themselves.
In order to cut through confusion, the Way itself is what Wayfarers focus on. Any special knowledge, lineage or amazing history is of far less importance than treading the Way towards emergence itself.

One cannot initiate emergence through physical, emotional or mental activity alone, although these are the tools with which we must begin.
Emergence is a natural phenomena, so, at least potentially, we are all equipped to walk the Way.
The individual must be prepared to actually exert effort towards their own emergence. There is no magic formula that will instantly free you from entanglement.
There is no “lazy person’s way out”. Even such radical methods as ingesting plant, mineral and chemical compounds are useless without the individual’s true Intention to work, to take steps along the Way and internally pursue emergence.
